Poetry Out Loud is a National Recitation Contest. Created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud is administered in partnership with the State Arts Agencies of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. The armature hosts a regional contest to select a state level winner who attends the national competition. Poetry Out Loud/the armature is sponsored in part by WVIA and Lackawanna County.
The Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. More than 2.4 million high school students from more than 4,000 high schools across the United States have discovered the magic of beautiful language through Poetry Out Loud.
